Why the Radio?

This question has come up more often than any other. It seems many people wish for something like a jukebox where you select a song to listen to. This is a great idea and we have such a jukebox too, but why the radio?

To answer this question in the best way possible, it is necessary to explain between “on demand” and  “live streaming” technologies both used to listen to music online. This obviously determines the technology of choice.

  • On demand technology allows you play a music or video file only when you suits you to. It will be the same file for all listerners even if they opened it at different times. That is, if user A in France clicks on the link for file “Silent night” at 6:00 pm GMT, it will play from the beginning (or designated start time) and can be stopped anytime. The same will apply to user B in USA say at 11: 00 PM GMT. Notice that the user experience is independent of the webmaster’s intervention in this case.
  • On the other hand, Live streaming works almost the same as traditional radio or TV transmission (at least conceptually). The program to be listened to is controlled by an individual (or a group of individuals) remotely and whatever changes is carried out by the presenter affects all users. For instance, if user A connects at 6:00 PM GMT and user B comes at 7:00 PM GMT, the latter will be forced to pick from where the former already is (position of stream at server). Much the same way in traditional Radio transmission. I will not go in the specifics of the technology itself, given the scope of this post.

Now, what was the big idea with the Radio? Does it give a better user experience that a self serve setting? Certainly, or not depending on how you look at it. When I created praiseVoice I was excited about sharing the music but I was also concerned with copyright infringement. The Radio reduces the risk of piracy remarkably. The Reason follows from the explanation above because streaming technology doesn’t give the user much of a choice as of what they can do with files. As a matter of fact, in streaming technology you are given access to the server but not the files. On demand you enjoy the benefit of accessing both.
Another benefit of “Radio” over whatever else the user wants is uniformity. While someone may argue it’s a good idea to let people do whatever they want, it is also a good idea to do things together. So, if there are 25 listeners worldwide at any given time listening to the same song, chances are they will more than likely pray, think about, read about, . . . the same topic. Of course this has its limitations and that’s why there’s the PraiseVoice On demand. Smile

Briefly as security is concerned, streaming is the best choice.

PraiseVoice Radio. . .The idea behind

In 2005 I had an opportunity to go to Africa for a small vacation. I ended up working on two albums with brothers and sisters in Christ who had helped me grow up. While I was there, I had an idea to praise God 24/7. SmileThat meant a Radio station or TV ot some kind of media sharing that would be up 24/7. I had launched  Radio ishimwe the year before with a fair success, and thought there wouldn't be any better idea that expanding the “ISHIMWE Radio” to encompass English, French and other languages than Kinyarwanda/ Kirundi.

That's the only idea behind PraiseVoice really. Sharing the gospel using the Internet 24/7, with more emphasis on Africa though.

MERRY CHRISTMAS

To believers in Jesus Christ nothing is as of fundamental value than the life of Jesus himself. He came in the world to save the lost, to give eternal hope to those who would believe in him. From humble beginnings he rose to world prominance and His church stands firm, unshakenly strong and will always do.

At PraiseVoice, I join others to celebrate the symbolic birth of our Lord and wish everyone a Merry Christmas. It is not just a holiday to be with friends and family, but also a time to reflect about what salvation given in Jesus is all about… being born everyday and humbly serve others before expecting to be served. That’s what Jesus taught, that’s what came for and ultimately died for.

To wish others a merry Christmas or simply share other greetings, please turn to PraiseVoice Greetings.

Merry Christmas.

You have a free download

I have received a couple of emails this morning from PraiseVoice subscribers asking me more about an email they received this  morning about “purchasing” a clip. I am writing this post to let everyone know about what’s happened exactly.

Once in a while when there are some exciting news at praisevoice we may want to send  “courtesy” emails to those who subscribed to our newletter or rss feed. In those courtesy emails we include free stuff like music you can download at no charge or some other offers at  no cost. However, the email is usually formulated the same way a sales email would be if you purchased an item at praisevoice from our  shop.

It is always safe if you suspect something is not right to contact praisevoice immediately. As I have said over and over again, I hate spam and by no means will allow PraiseVoice be a source of such a disturbance. You can read the official PraiseVoice notice on security and spam issues.

From the many feedback replies I received, I am glad to see most users didn’t have any trouble with the download. This post was intended for any who had  trouble  figuring out what it was all about, and I would be glad if it was of help.

What you take in determines how you feel

Biologically speaking, our body is nothing more than a transformation of the food we eat, drinks we take and the air we breathe. Without  going into details about these processes though - because it ain’t the point of this topic- our overall feeling depends in more than 80% to the combinations of these three, because other factors such as beliefs, sport activities and how we are treated  by our peers and family  may play a part in how we feel. “The look is great, the advantages are numerous, security is improved and everything is together now.” That’s the new PraiseVoice in a nutshell!

My name is Janvier Manishimwe, I have been working on improving PraiseVoice over the past few months and I haven’t been any  happier than now. It is the Grand debut of another chapter in the existence of PraiseVoice, and I have a few reasons to say so. In 2005 I had an idea to create a website I can use to promote “least heard of, world gospel” musicians and their work. Read more
